In an old thread we debated between the 96, 2008, 2012 teams of "most talented" "most style" and "most accomplished". It was agreed by nearly all of us that it had to be a no brainer the 2008 team was the most accomplished, and while there was some debate the majority seemed to give most talented to the 2012 team and most style to the 96 team.
The 2008 team has a combined 26 individual world/Olympic medals which is far and away the most of any US team in history thus far. However the U.S has a chance to match/pass that here. If Simone medals in the AA, vault, beam, floor, if Aly medals in the AA and floor, if Madison medals on bars, Laurie on beam, and Gabby on bars they will pass that with 27 combined. If all those happen except for Gabby on bars (which is the only one I mentioned that might not be expected) they would tie with 26 combined. Laurie atleast is likely to add more medals in the future. So the 2008 could lose out on being the most accomplished team to this group. Now alot of that may be Simone, but the 2008 team was very Nastia heavy in total medals too, and also had alot of their medals from a vault specialist who didnt even compete AAs (Sacramone).
2016 team with chance to pass 2008 team in individual world/Olympic medals here
