What's your prediction for Simone's comeback?

It's the last day of Simone's time off - she's back in the gym and with Laurent for the first time tomorrow.

I figured we'd celebrate with a little poll.

Comments (specially of skills/routines/d-values for this code) always welcome.

At least for me. :D (x-posted from WWGym)

Stumbled upon this gem. Over 5000 photos of our MAG, WAG and Rhythmic gymnasts who competed in Seoul. I must caution you that they are in no particular order if you decide to go through all 578 pages.

Even better? There is video of all the competition, including award ceremonies. But you need to run Internet Explorer to see them. Chrome and Firefox won't work.

You will need to click here first, http://ift.tt/2iPv0pm --click either PHOTO GALLERY or VIDEO GALLERY directly below for pics and vids. (Tiger on a balance beam toward the lower left hand corner) I can't directly link it.

FINALLY, the WAG award ceremony and MAG stuff. Yee-haw!

Dance Magazine columnist praises 1968 Olympics FX gymnasts

While collating my collection of old Dance Magazines, I came across a column by Ann Barzel in the December, 1968 issue. She had some very nice things to say about the gymnasts participating: "The televised Olympics from Mexico City offered some fine near-dancing in the gymnastic competitions. The Russians were balletically graceful and Czech champion Vera Caslavska was stunning in her display of floor exercises. But the real dance talent, which someone should snatch from the jaws of the gymnasium and lead to genuine dance, is little American Cathy Rigby. Coordination and litheness all gymnasts have, but this 15 year old also has grace and an innate beauty of movement. Won't you come and dance, Cathy?" I also remember when the Russian team became such a sensation, and the old "Gymnast" magazine put out some special publications about them (which I still have). Tourischeva was highly praised, and justifiably so, and the writer said that she was a "strikingly beautiful young woman" (with which I agree), but went on to say that after her gymnastics career was over, she "should have a long career in ballet." Well, Luda was a great dancer as a gymnast, but I am afraid that she was just not built for ballet, and this from someone who has always adored T as her favorite gymnast (except for possibly Olga). Anyway, thought you would be interested in what dance writers thought about dance in gymnastics--

The next World Cup seasons starts here.

It's a month away, so I'll be surprised if this roster remains as is. However, lots of other faces for Russia and China and even some US men this time.

Romanian Juinors "2010-2011" Question

Does anyone know the DOB's for former Romanian Juniors Diana Rusu, Andreea Tufa, and Irina Paun? They competed at the 2010 and 2011 Nadia Comaneci Invitational but I can find absolutely no info about them.

Thanks in advance.

Shawney J. expecting?

My Facebook feed just showed a video of Shawn sniffling on camera that she's pregnant, and "How am I going to tell Andrew that he's going to be a daddy?" Uh, did I miss something? Is this some sort of joke? I'm assuming she actually broke the news to hubby before posting the video.

NCAA Women's 2018 Schedules

UCLA announced their competition schedule.. http://ift.tt/2z6gdcW

Interesting that they are pretty much staying on the west coast for the most part except for a trip to Lincoln and a trip to Dallas.. Wouldn't they do a competition in Cancun or Maui to start the year? It seems they are being more careful with the budget it seems.. I wonder if they've been hit with budget cuts to the program

Balance of 2017-2020 COP compared to previous open ended codes

As a numbers guy, I've kept track of best potential AA scores for the top gymnasts in each open ended code. For each apparatus, I give each gymnast the best score they received during all world championships and the Olympics during that quad.

I wanted to share the average scores on each event of the top 10 AA gymnasts in each code to compare how balanced each code was.

2006-2008 (Liukin, Johnson, Yang, Nistor, Ferrari, Semenova, Barbosa, Jiang, Memmel, Tweddle)

VT: 15.175 UB: 16.120 BB: 15.705 FX: 15.248

2009-2012 (Komova, Douglas, Mustafina, Wieber, Raisman, Yao, Bross, Jiang, Huang, Izbasa)

VT: 15.448 UB: 15.294 BB: 15.124 FX: 14.976

2013-2016 (Biles, Raisman, Mustafina, Douglas, Iordache, Ross, Nichols, Shang, Yao, Downie)

VT: 15.280 UB: 15.210 BB: 14.939 FX: 14.858

2017-2020 so far (Hurd, Murakami, Smith, Black, Eremina, de Jesus dos Santos, Derwael, Alt, Steingruber, Varinska)

VT: 14.321 UB: 14.252 BB: 13.063 FX: 13.530

Each code has improved on the balance up to 2016. So we will have to wait and see how this quad looks once we are deeper into it. I don't think it's a surprise that beam was the lowest by far, followed by floor, and then vault and bars as the highest scoring events. Do you guys think the code will end up being pretty balanced by the end of the quad?

2017 Worlds: The Hunger Games - The Good, the Bad, the Ugly.

This has been a very interesting Worlds. I have quite a few comments about this Worlds and my overall experience that I will add later--including arena regulations, lighting, podium training times, etc.

However, to get the party and discussion started here are some statements from Valentina translated by Luba.

http://ift.tt/2yyGaFE

"As we were explained, this had to do with TV, which, apparently, was streaming the podium training."

This statement in particular sounds like Valentina trying to take a dig at the U.S., who were the only ones to my knowledge to stream podium training on their YouTube page. I'm not sure who explained the situation to Valentina. However, I can assure you that USAG's decision to stream just two subdivisions (U.S. men's and U.S. women's) had nothing to do with the decision to change time allocation for PT. It hasn't in the past and it didn't this time.

Hopes for 2017 World Championships

I don't think I will ever get over Iordache's injury (not to mention Andrade, Thorsdottir, LTT, Melnikova, McCusker, Downie, Kovacs, etc.).

That said, I need to think positive because it is the World Championships and it is the most exciting time for gymnastics all year!

So I decided to make a list of updated hopes:

- DJDS wins an AA medal
- Moors win a floor medal to the delight of her home crowd
- Murakami wins floor gold
- Bars final is one of the best ever -- I hope everyone hits!
- LTT wins beam gold
- Varinska has her best competition ever and gives me hope in Ukrainian gymnastics
- German girls keep being awesome
- Hurd outshines Smith and establishes her place as the top American
- Carey sticks her vaults en route to gold
- Melka hits 4 for 4!
- Moldauer has a good competition
- Verniaev wins AA gold for the first time
- Larduet or Shirai make the AA podium (I have a good feeling about this one!)

What are your hopes? :)

Incorrect event details on World's ticket

I just found out this morning that the information that is on the tickets I printed in January is incorrect (the one printed a couple of months ago is fine). I checked the online ticket pdf, and it does look like it was updated between now and then and reflects what's on the event website. I'm shocked an email wasn't sent about this correction when someone originally amended the ticket details! If I had gone by the information on the original ticket, I would have arrived late to the competition.

Anyway, I wanted to share this in case someone else might be in the same boat.

Where to rewatch Rio Olympics?

So last summer during the Olympics I was away from home in a place with no internet, and I missed all the prelims/team finals. I got to see the AA's and EF's but that was it. After the Olympics I dove into a really crazy school and work schedule (I basically did 3 college years in 1 year) and I've only just finished.

I want to go back and watch the full-event replays of the stuff I missed, but I don't know where to look. NBCOlympic's website has switched over to Winter Olympic stuff already and Youtube is no help, lol.

Does anyone know where I can find full-event replays of stuff from Rio, mainly TF's but also other finals if possible? Links or even pointing me to a place where I can DL stuff is good. I think I prefer BBC/FIG commentary but if NBC is the only thing available, I'll go with that too.

Thanks for helping a gym fan out!
