Question About National Team Leos (All Countries, But Esp. USA)
Some of the USA Gymnasts have written about getting leotards for competitions (Shawn comes to mind for sure and I think Nastia) when they're given an assignment. They always get a package of workout and competition leotards along with some clothing to wear (which explains the matching T-shirts everyone is often photographed in) I was wondering first of all, what happens if you get more than one competition with the same leotard? For example, Nastia, Shawn, Shayla and Sam were all at Worlds with the gold medal team leo there, and then all four of them went on to compete in the same leo at the American Cup. Did they get another one or do they get a gift box and are told "Make sure you bring your Worlds leos with you too" or what happens exactly? And are there rules for when you can and can't wear your own clothing at meets? I know I've seen some candid shots of the girls in their own clothing, but then there are a lot where they're wearing the same T-shirt as the others on the team too.
And are other countries similar or do they have different policies?

2018 Worlds Prediction Contest - I actually did forget this year: 9th edition
Hahaha...so after threatening to forget last year, I actually did forget this year. I blame adulting. Thanks to Kalinina for saving our collective bacon!
Welcome to the 9th edition of the IG prediction contest! Nothing new to report this year; we're doing the same as last!
We're using Google Forms again to submit predictions so visit the links below!
Click HERE to submit your predictions!
Reminders for this year:
- I will NOT be accepting ANY forum submissions for predictions as long as the form is working well. If you post your predictions in this thread but do not submit them via the webform, your responses will NOT be entered and recorded.
- PLEASE save a hard copy of your predictions elsewhere in case the spreadsheet goes paflooey. I suggest copying them into this thread, but remember that I will NOT be using them as your official predictions unless something goes wrong (and I will notify everyone if that is the case).
- You CAN edit your predictions after you make them; just make sure to save the "Edit Response" link when you first submit so you can access it later. Your unique link will work up until I close down the ability to edit.
Rules for the actual point tallying are the same as before, which I will quote below:
The rules are really simple. You post your predictions for the medal podium of each event, plus one alternate per podium.
Points
5 points --- each correct medal prediction
2.5 points --- each correct top 3 prediction, but incorrect medal prediction
.5 point --- if your alternate wins a medal.
For example, in '10 this was my AA prediction:
AA:
1 Musty
2 Bross
3 Aly
Alt: Jiang Yuyuan
The actual result was 1st: Musty, 2nd: Jiang, 3rd Bross. I received 5 points for correctly predicting Musty's medal position, 2.5 points for putting Bross on the podium but in the wrong position, and .5 points for having my alternate Jiang medal, for a total of 8 points. I didn't receive any points for Aly, since she didn't make the podium.
In the case of a tie for a medal, you still only receive points for each correct PLACEMENT. If Kyla and Simone tie in AA and you had them 1-2, you would receive 7.5 points for correctly predicting the gold medalist but incorrectly predicting the silver medalist (which would correctly be no one). If you like to tempt fate, feel free to put ties as your prediction BUT you may not have more than 3 people per podium plus one alternate (i.e. no eight way tie for gold! :p ;) )
Predictions are locked the day after prelims are completed, (before MAG AA starts) with NO EDITING ALLOWED. This gives everyone the best idea of who will be competing for the medals, but does not account for last minute substitutions due to federation swapping or injury. You are not required to predict your podium out of the official start list but may substitute anyone as you see fit; heck, put anyone on there! Do as you please. :)
The contest will run for WAG and MAG, and then one combined for those who submit in both categories. You are free to predict all the events or just a few; whatever you like. :) No deducting points for wrong answers, so why not? ;)
Predictions will CLOSE at I'm not sure at the moment but it will be right before MAG TF. You are welcome to make any changes to your predictions up until that point, but not after. Absolutely no editing or substitutions after the closing time will be allowed, so make sure you double and triple check! :)
Looking forward to another fun year!

Prediction Contest Alert
Gymfan15 usually sets these up but they haven't posted since March, and it would be a shame to miss a year, even if the number of submissioners is dwindled. I'll post a very basic thread for predictions tomorrow and be happy to tabulate scores (or if someone else wants to take charge of it, you're welcome to), but I'm putting this out there first in case Gymfan15 still wants to do it this year.
In any case, start thinking out your knowledgeable, well-thought out guesses for the women's golds and your wild, worth-a-shot-I've-heard-his-name-before gambles for the men's bronzes, and all the medals in between.

News is that the floor is very hard (pray for everyone's ankles and knees...). Also, the training gym was flooded during the rain. So once again awesome conditions...

Olympic Specialist Qualification
Figured we might as well give it its own thread. Not just for U.S. discussion, although that will likely dominate given the circumstances. But its an interesting topic overall. What other top teams might try to qualify specialist via World Cups and who would they be? What gymnasts not from the Big 3 teams could potentially earn a nominative spot? Etc.
There is a decent general FAQ about qualification spots from the FIG here:
http://www.fig-gymnastics.com/public...0FAQ%20ART.pdf
And for the record, each country is only allowed to qualify 1 nominative spot through the World Cup series. If 2 gymnasts from the same country qualify on different events, the tie breaker is as follows:
Maximum of One Quota Place per NOC and/or Athlete Qualifies on More than One Apparatus
In case of more than one (1) quota place per NOC or if an athlete qualifies on more than one
apparatus, the following procedure will apply to determine which quota place will be earned:
1. The highest average World Cup points on the respective apparatus from all competitions
attended in the series prevails
2. If they remain tied, the best average rank on the respective apparatus in the Qualifications of
all competitions attended in the series prevails
Full tiebreak rules can be found here:
https://drive.google.com/drive/folde...NqMRVIpJU0hH8A
Interesting to note that it says the tie breaker is the highest average World Cup points from ALL competitions attended in the series, not just the top 3 competitions, which is what wins you the spot in the first place (if Im reading that right).
My remaining question is, what do they mean when they say World Cup points? Do they mean the actual scores they received? Or do they mean points received based on a World Cup ranking system that assigns a certain total of points to an athlete based on their placement? (I hope its the latter, because that is more fair)

Questions about a New Gymnastics Doc Currently being Filmed?
My niece loves to watch Whitney Bjerkens YouTube channel so her videos pop up in my YouTube feed quite often. And on a recent video (I believe Sept 23), she said she had a film crew at her house following her for some sort of piece on young people in gymnastics. I assumed it was possibly a local piece, but then I noticed in her video from Oct 2 that the film crew was still filming her her gym, throughout the entire team workout I believe, as you could see the boom mic when her coach was giving them their assignments.
Is anyone familiar with this channel/know what this is for? Im just curious, against the backdrop of the current climate in womens gymnastics thinking about what story people are trying to tell/what they might be trying to capture...I mean this girl seems like shes definitely got a good head on her shoulders/is from a good family/I dont know anything about her gym (Georgia Elite?)but Im just always a little nervous about what story people are trying to tell with these kinds of pieces these days, and wondered if anyone here knew anything more about it.
Heres the links to the two videos I referenced:
