How would 1992, 1996, 2000 Olympics have gone with everyone hitting

1992, 1996, and 2000 had some of the deepest fields of all time, especialy for women, but unfortunately marred by too many mistakes. How would these events have gone with everyone hitting, I mean both women and men since it seems this forum ignores the men unless it specifically states men. These are how I believe they would have ended up, although tough to say for certain with such great depth and so many contenders.

1992 womens All Around:

Gold- Gutsu
Silver- Lysenko
Bronze- Milo

Tough to say for sure between Gutsu and Lysenko but Gutsu at her best could score in the 9.975 range on all of bars, beam, and floor, maybe even a 10, and a 9.95 on vault. Lysenko's vaulting edge is negaged by the stupid rule which doesnt credit a double twisting yurchenko, and she clearly isnt as good on bars as Gutsu, and her beam is inconsistent. Milo's huge scores on vault and floor would put her above all those other than maybe Gutsu and Lysenko had she hit her bars and beam more solidly than she did in the All Around (she is capable of 9.925-9.95 on both). Zmeskal, Miller, Onodi, Bontas, Bogi are all contenders too but I see them each just missing out in this scenario.

1992 womens vault: exactly as it turned out.

1992 womens bars: Gwang Suk would tie Lu Li for gold with another 10, Gutsu bronze as opposed to silver.

1992 womens beam: Lu Li would never medal now, she just doesnt have the difficulty. Gutsu in the finals and really nailing her super difficult set probably takes gold, even if Lysenko's winning routine was excellent. Miller definitely on the podium too. Bontas and Bogi can do better routines than what they did in finals but with Gutsu, Lysenko, Miller all hitting perfectly (not a step on the landing like Miller had or any small breaks) probably still no room for either

1992 womens floor: I think Milo, Onodi, Gutsu, Zmeskal (her Olympic trials routine although with what she was attempting in Barcelona no), Bontas could all potentially get a 10 here so we could have a many women tie for gold. Still Milo probably the most likely to get a 10, the other medals amongst any of those.

1992 Mens All Around: Misutin would win considering he almost got the gold over Scherbo despite hops and steps on almost every landing and a bad vault. Belenko would be closer to Scherbo and Misutin without his miffed vault but probably still only bronze. Ooops I forgot Li Jing, he could totally medal and perhaps even win gold in the finals and hitting, even with the Unified Team members all hitting. He was greatly missed in the All Around this year.

1992 Mens floor: Scherbo would take the gold away from Li Xiaoshaung with his best routine. Misutin bronze.

1992 Mens vault: Misutin and Yoo would both beat out Scherbo for gold with their best vaults. That would be the podium still but in a different order.

1992 Parallel bars: Li Ning wins gold with his best routine for sure. Belenko in the finals instead of Koribchinsky would have medaled along with Li and Scherbo.

1992 High bar: Misutin and Wecker with stuck landings both beat Trent, so a tie for gold rather than a tie for silver with Trent getting bronze.

Gymnastics firsts

Just a little diversion from Jesolo, World Cup events, NCAA, etc. For the longest time I've been curious about gymnastics "firsts" in competition (that weren't named after the gymnast). I can think of a few, but I'm not sure if I'm 100% correct. Wondering if others out there might be able to shed more knowledge or add to the list. Would also be fun to make the same list for just American gymnasts.

Appreciation thread for John Orozco

Now that the wonderful John Orozco has announced his retirement I thought it would be fitting to have a thread dedicated to him. He was a classy and always smiling individual, despite the hardships in his personal life and in his gymnastics life with injury after injury. In 2012 he looked like the long standing star of U.S mens gymnastics, but things didnt pan out that way. He still accomplished alot including a U.S AA title, a world individual medal (which Sam Mikaluk still doesnt have), and technically qualifed for 2 Olympics.

Could Memmel have been best ever U.S gymnast without her injuries?

Maybe even over Biles? Or if not atleast 2nd best over Liukin and Miller. Think about it:

2004 Olympics- Had she been healthy all year she makes the U.S Olympic team. No chance in hell she beats Carly in the AA, but maybe a shot at silver over a very subpar/way past prime Khorkina. Atleast bronze in the AA. Probably wins gold on bars since Khorkina fell and Kupets was injured and below par for her. Probably wins bronze on beam and silver on floor too.

2005 worlds- Had she competed and shone in 2004 she for sure is given gold on bars and beam for the same routines on reputation now, even though I think Nastia deserved the wins there. Makes floor finals and wins silver now too (again boosted reputation from Athens).

2006 worlds- Healthy she wins the AA, wins bronze on bars, wins gold on beam, wins silver or gold on floor.

2007 worlds- Healthy she wins the AA, gold on bars, gold on beam, and maybe gold on floor.

2008 Olympics- With Nastia's fall she makes the AA and wins silver behind Shawn. Unless Chelsie's coach/dad protests Shawn's Amanar to be downgraded and she wins gold in AA now. Doesnt make any event finals since her teammates were too strong, well maybe bars but doesnt medal.

This would give her a resume sufficient to put her above Nastia and Shannon, but perhaps not Biles. Although how do 2 Olympic AA silvers and 3 straight World AA titles compare to 3 straight World AA titles and an Olympic AA gold? Had she not screwed up individually at the 2003 worlds after shining in the Team Event she could have an even stronger position.

Inspiring vs. Uninspiring Comebacks

Discuss your favorite and least favorite comebacks in WAG and MAG, using whatever criteria you like.

Inspiring:

I thought Bogi's return in 1995/1996 was quite admirable. Her 2nd place AA at Euros was impressive, considering the deeper fields at that time. She still had her trademark grace, along with enough difficulty for the quad, even if it wasn't top notch (she was already being outpaced in 1992).

I remember wanting Kim Zmeskal to do well in 1998, if mostly for sentimental reasons. She looked pretty good in 1998 US Nationals, all things considered, even if she wasn't up there with the top girls. She was still solid, had great form, and good amplitude in tumbling/ vaulting. Too bad things didn't pan out for her. I wonder what could have happened, had she not gotten injured.

I wasn't a huge Ponor fan during her heyday in 2004, mostly due to what I thought was sloppy form (though, little did I know at the time, I took her for granted, considering what we see from today's gymnasts in terms of difficulty over form, and general lack of grace). However, I couldn't help but respect her return in 2011, especially considering the medal success she's had. I genuinely appreciate her style and presentation on FX. Kudos to her for being able to compete at the highest level for so long. She's insanely fit.

Not-so-inspiring:

I always liked Nastia, but it pained me to watch her rushed attempt at making London Olys in 2012. It is obvious that she had started training too late and was simply not prepared, which made me wonder if she was under external pressure to try for it. She had nothing to prove after Beijing and all of her Worlds success.

I know I'll think of more later, but share your thoughts!

Who has retired in 2016/since 2016 Olympics?

I have a hard time keeping track of which major players are still in it/taking a break/retired/moved on to college. This is internationally, not just US. Would love the input of people who pay more attention than I do!

Doha World Challenge Cup - Doha, Qatar

A lot of competitors from Baku flew right to Doha to compete today.

Day 1 Qualification:
http://ift.tt/2noiGgl

Apparently there were some live streams of qualification on the event's Facebook page, but I haven't watched any of them. Supposedly there will be a TV broadcast for finals (SporTV in Brazil usually does).

It was a good day for the Chinese with Wang Yan placing 1st on vault, and Luo Huan and Liu Tingting placing 1st and 2nd on bars.

Meanwhile, Krisztian Berki keeps trying to fend off all the new Chinese pommels specialists lol.

GOAT Series - Beam

Onto the next! Who makes your top five?

1. Nadia Comaneci - Two-time Olympic champion, brought innovation, difficulty, a faster pace, and stunning balance/quality to the event. There's still a special, light, effortless quality to her routine, even watching now.
2. Yang Bo - Only a gymnast with the world's best quality on an event could possibly enter the top five without ever winning a major title/medal on said event, and Yang Bo is it. My favorite beam worker of all time, but can't quite justify giving her the top spot in spite of her immaculate abilities. I mean, has anyone ever looked better on beam?
3. Shannon Miller - One Olympic gold and one silver, a World champion, the first American to perform a full-in dismount, and another of just my favorite beam workers generally. Performed a wide variety of skills, all incredibly well. For all her success, she actually could have had much more (her 1991 Worlds EF beam routine was legit perfect until the dismount, she could have won 1992 with a steadier 1/4-dive to handstand, was the favorite to win in 1993, and could have easily medaled in 1995, to say nothing of the 1992 and 1996 Worlds she missed). Also mastered two different compulsory beam sets.
4. Daniella Silivas - Beautiful beam quality, particularly with compulsories, and the resume to match: Olympic gold and two Worlds golds. Strong difficulty, as well.
5. Olga Korbut - Amazing innovation and difficulty, with good medal hardware to boot--an Olympic gold, an Olympic silver, and a Worlds silver.

Honorable mentions: Catalina Ponor, Ekaterina Szabo, Andreea Raducan, Sui Lu, Kui Yuanyuan

GOAT Series - Uneven Bars

I think it is time to finally move on to the next event.

(Disclaimer: My three favorite gymnasts of all time are Nemov, Khorkina and Dawes. I think it is fair to say, Nemov is not eligible for discussion.)

Recognizing my bias and conscientiously trying not to rank Khorkina #1, I'm having a hard time finding a reason not to.

My top 5 (subject to change as the conversation evolves):

1. Khorkina
2. Mustafina
3. He Kexin
4. Polina Astakhova
5. Kim Gwang-suk (ducks and hides for cover on this one)
