One thing that I found in my time as a youtube poster as russianskatingfan (I rarely post there anymore, it is too full of toxic and nasty presences, unlike calm and respectul people who just want to discuss gymnastics politely and positively like myself) that Shushunova was one of the most disrespected gymnasts there. Imparticular by Silivas fans who heavily disputed many of her successes, particularly her closely fought Olympic AA win over Silivas. Despite that I am in fact a bigger Silivas fan than a Shushunova fan (although I love both) and would have much preferred Silivas to win the AA in Seoul (and can certainly see arguments done with reason why she possibly should have won, there are valid arguments in either direction) this was quite irritating as it got out of control with the hatred and obvious bias. However signs, especialy on a forum of highly reputed gymnastics experts such as this, indicate Shushunova is now getting more greatly appreciated as times goes on, which is good to see. She deserves it. Maybe the passage of time is burrying the urban legend and mythical "controversies" created by angry and bitter fanbases (similar to the so called controversy of Gutsu vs Miller from Barcelona which the rabid Miller fan who are only a notch down from the rabid Silivas fan base have spammed youtube and other venues ad nauseum with whining on for years) and allowing her to see the legend she is for what it is. Biles who is a very similar style of gymanst to Shushunova, is perhaps also now causing her work to be more appreciated.
Elena Shushunova getting more respect these days?
