While there are a number of good choices my pick would be SIMONA AMANAR. She competed in my favorite era ever in gymnastics with my favorite gymnast ever- Dina Kochetkova, and others I either loved or atleast appreciated like Mo Huilan, Lilia Podkopayeva, Milosovici and Gogean, Miller, Dawes, Moceanu, Strug, Furnon, Piskun, Meng Fei, Liu Xuan, Khorkina, etc...She was always gracious in defeat and congratulatory to her competitors, even in dissapointment. It was painful for her I am sure to never get the elusive world/Olympic AA title (well other than the wierd 2000 one) or a major floor title, but she was always professional and positive towards the winners. She was a great teammate both to her older and younger training mates, without the major diva attitude other star Romanians of the time- especialy Milo and Marinescu, tended to adopt. She was incredibly gracious in the extremely difficult and delicate situation of the 2000 Olympic AA finals. Even Khorkina really liked her when Khorkina was well into her major bitch phase at the end of Amanar's career, and that tells you all you need to know.
I also had the pleasue of meeting her in person once and while her English wasnt great she was incredibly kind and friendly.
Who is the classiest, nicest, most sportsmanlike gymnast ever?
