The T&T situation

So this is pretty shock. Trinidad and Tobago picks a gymnast (Thema Williams). She goes to Rio, does Podium Training and the suddenly is pulled.
The second-ranked Trinidadian WA gymnast suddenly has to go on without any sort of practice.

Apart from the outmoded sexual politics involved in the decisions, there are conspiracy claims that the federation did this to scuttle Thema Williams. If that's the case why did they send her to the Test Event in the first place?
