One Spot Decisions...
So the teams that tried, but came up just short at the Test Event, only get to send one gymnast. Any predictions on whom might that be?
Women:
Australia: it will be interesting to see if Lauren Mitchell is back enough to be awarded the spot over someone like a Larrissa Miller or Emily Little.
Switzerland: 100% assume Steingruber gets this spot
Romania: between Iordache and Ponor
Korea: No clue whom they have
Who from the men??

Osijek World Challenge Cup - Osijek, Croatia
I'm actually a bit confused about the dates. The FIG calendar says April 28-May 1, but the document says May 5-8. Was it rescheduled?
Anyway, the roster is pretty impressive for a World Cup on both sides.

Help ID'ing Gymnasts
I was watching some of the Nanning training videos and at the end of this dance through there are two girls who walk past in white t-shirts who I feel like I should recognize and I don't. Does anyone know who they are?

Compulsory FX Question
Forgive me if this is a stupid question, but NBC has said ad nauseum about how in a compulsory floor routine, every arm and leg movement has to be done to text and I'm just trying to understand how far that goes. Are actual steps counted?
The reason I'm wondering is there are some sequences in a few of the compulsory routines that I'm wondering how they would be judged. First of all, in both the 1996 and 1988 routines, there's a leap series where the gymnast does a jump, runs a couple of steps, then jumps again, and the does another couple of steps and then the final jump. (1988 might have had four jumps - I'd have to look back). Would those have a mandate on how many steps you were allowed between jumps or would it be more like the run into a tumbling pass and be according to the individual athlete?
Also, just before the first pass in the 1988 routine, there's a pretty movement where a gymnast runs in an arc to the corner. There's a similar sequence before one pass in the 1984 routine too. Are those steps also specifically counted?
Thanks in advance. Sorry I can't post the videos, but my computer won't let me at the moment.

WAG CoP 2017 Draft
http://ift.tt/1WIvdpf
Thoughts?
I just took a quick look. It seems most of the proposed changes from last year will make it to the 2017-2020 Code.
Some notes:
The Produnova won't count if the gymnast lands with her bottom and feet at the same time, gets 6.4 DV.
Lots of vault downgrades in general (like, Amanar at 5.8, Cheng at 6.0).
Did Yurchenkos with 3/4 turn (270°) onto the table exist before?
One-handed vault deduction is back (thanks Skinner).
CRs are 2 points (no D dismount requirements).
Piked Jaeger to E, laidout to F.
Kips after Shaposh-type skills counts as empty swing.
2.5 Wolf turn on beam down to D.
Gainer salto dismounts downgraded.
Front salto requirement on floor can't be cheated anymore with aerials.
Dos Santos II on floor is finally an H.
0.1 deduction for beam mounts without DV (having to have a DV doesn't mean they're creative)
What's an inapproprite facial expression on floor that gets a 0.1 deduction?

Petition for Larisa Iordache
I didn't want to post this in the Romanian thread because I thought some people might be interested who don't follow that thread closely. A petition just showed up on my Facebook that is asking the FIG to give Larisa a spot at the Olympics based on her World AA bronze. I'm not really sure the FIG can do that (it may get shot down by the IOC anyway based on "official" number of athletes/sport) but it can't hurt to sign it and show Larisa our support!
Here's the link for anyone who is interested:

The T&T situation
So this is pretty shock. Trinidad and Tobago picks a gymnast (Thema Williams). She goes to Rio, does Podium Training and the suddenly is pulled.
The second-ranked Trinidadian WA gymnast suddenly has to go on without any sort of practice.
http://ift.tt/1QglKxP
The replacement gymnast is Marisa ****.
http://ift.tt/1QglIpK
More links http://ift.tt/1WakELa
The decision was supposedly made because of things that John Geddart said publicly, although he's now disavowing them:
http://ift.tt/1QglKxR
There's also been some funny business with partially nude photos of both gymnasts circulating online.
http://ift.tt/1QglIpM
http://ift.tt/1QglKxT
Apart from the outmoded sexual politics involved in the decisions, there are conspiracy claims that the federation did this to scuttle Thema Williams. If that's the case why did they send her to the Test Event in the first place?
Any thoughts?

Simone's floor routine.
I'm disappointed with Simone's floor routine. It's filled with silly poses and no real dance sequences. There are no nice lines and her stomach hangs out the entire routine. I wish her coach would work on her posture because the entire routine is done with an arched back. Just because someone has a little bum doesn't mean they can't stand or dance with flat hips. To me this is Simone's only weakness but it stops her from being considered the greatest gymnast ever though she has the most gold medals.

Hardships and triumphs...
I know there are a lot more exciting things to be discussing atm, but if someone could help me that would be fab!
There was a gymnastics montage called hardships and triumphs set to 'the island' soundtrack, a score called 'My name is Lincoln' by Steve Jablonsky.
Does anyone know where I can find it? It was the first gymnastics montage video that got me obsessed back in the 05-08 quad, so i'm asking for purely selfish/nostalgic reasons, but i will love whoever can point me in the right direction!
The uploader also did a friendship montage to a jesse mccartney song which i cant find either do feel maybe the account got deleted wahh
TIA

Is Locklear currently the best bars worker?
Given her scores at Pacific Rims would these scores carry over to Rio? Or would her Russian and Chinese counterparts benefit from the higher judging scores as well? Or is she simply the best on bars in the World at the moment?

if Simone does the following....
......in Rios- Team Gold, All Around Gold, Vault Gold, Beam Bronze, Floor Gold, I would rate her as the 4th greatest gymnast of all time behind Vera Casvlaska, Svetlana Khorkina, Nadia Commaneci at that point. What about you? She would need to compete beyond 2016 to rise to #1 (although not necessarily until 2020).

Are Russia nearing the depth of the USA?
I was really surprised about the depth of Russia at their recent championships. Obviously the USA are still way ahead, but I am feeling more optimistic regarding the amount of girls that could contribute in TF. Here is my comparison:
USA
Main contenders: Biles, Douglas, Nichols, Raisman
Possible contributors: Kocian UB, Locklear UB, Smith BB/FX, Hernandez BB/FX
Russia
Main contenders: Mustafina, Komova, Afan, Paseka
Possible contributors: Spiridonova UB, Kapitonova UB, Melnikova VT/UB/BB/FX, Tutkhalyan BB/FX, Karenkova BB/FX
Do Russia actually have four possible UB Olympic Champions?
I am sure I am probably missing out some US girls, and consistency is another matter. What do you think? I am not the most knowledgable, so please discuss.

Who do you think is the most underrated team? That to me would be the Japanese. They seem to never be given the benefit of the doubt like the Romanians and are given the absolute maximum deductions. I really hope they have a break through at this Olympics. Sae M is amazing on floor I hope she medals.

Kodak Moments
Hi everyone! I'm trying to compile a collection of photos depicting moments of friendship/ sportsmanship between gymnasts and their teammates, coaches, or fellow competitors. I'm particularly interested in images of obscure gymnasts and competitions or those involving random pairings (for example a coach from one country congratulating the athlete of another country). Please share what you find with a brief explanation if necessary. If you can't find a photo but have a relevant anecdote, feel free to post that instead. Thanks!
p.s. Who do you think has been the greatest example of sportsmanship in gym history and why?
