New elites

Okay because I can't get enough I thought we could start listing elites that have achieved their compulsory or optional elite scores this year. Thought we could combine them all in one thread since this info can be hard to find

Questions to London2012

I don't like starting a thread for this but not sure where else it would be appropriate and don't want to take any other thread off topic. So:

1. I remember one thread where you said Komova had the most difficulty and the best lines in history. I argued Mo Huilan had even greater difficulty for her time (aka considering how far she was ahead of her competitors at the time) and even better lines. I never saw your response to this, but what was it. Biles is probably tops in difficulty even for her time now, but forget that as that is now after the fact of the discussion.

2. I remember asking you about Alicia Sacramone and if you were a big fan of her gymnastics since you seemed quite upset she didn't get a chance to redeem herself in London, and that she wasn't atleast an alternate. What do you feel about her gymnastics.

3. Do you ever follow mens gymnastics or only womens, I have never seen you comment on mens.

4. Why do you Huang Q. and Yao Jinnan never fulfilled their early potential as AAers. I ask you as you seem good at analyzing that sort of thing.

5. Who do you prefer overall as a gymnast at their best between Wieber and Gabby Douglas?

6. I recall you predicting Maroney to bump Simone Biles off the U.S Olympic team altogether. Do you still predict that.

Pacific Rim Championships- April.8-10/2016

I am looking into going to Pac Rims this April and wanted to purchase tickets, but when I went to the Pac Rim Champs website it seems only All Session tickets are on sale. It says individual sessions will be on sale early 2016. Nothing is mentioned exactly when early 2016 is.. I tried calling the ticketmaster tonight and even they didn't have info for me.. I'm coming from outside the U.S. and would need to book flights as well. I would assume it's not sold out already. I went to this competition when it was in the Seattle area in 2012 and I'm sure I was able to purchase individual session tickets in January. Anyone else able to purchase tickets yet ?

Send NastiaFan to Olympic Trials!

Quote:

Chances are, if you're a gymnastics fan, you've spent countless hours watching the hundreds of high quality videos NastiaFan has created and put on his youtube channel. We are trying to send him to the Olympic Trials in San Jose, CA., which would also be his first time attending an elite gymnastics meet.
Show your appreciation for the work he's put in by recording, digitizing, cutting commercials, and cleaning up videos of all your favorite gymnasts and favorite meets. He does all of this free of charge.
Please consider donating even the smallest amount. If you were to attend just one of the meets he's uploaded, you'd probably spend well over $50 for tickets, parking, and food at the event. No amount is too small, so please chip in, share this GoFundMe account, and let's get NastiaFan to one of the most exciting meets of the quad!
All funds raised will go towards the costs of airfare, hotel, and event ticket.

No one goes into the NCAA thread anymore and not all NCAA gymnasts are American, I thought these gymnasts deserved their own thread.

I can see Ebee dominating the way Courtney K did.

How to watch College Gymnastics online this weekend?

I know this belongs in the College Gym section but it's time sensitive and it seems like no one ever visits that section...

On the Gymcastic podcast last week they mentioned that the all of the college gymnastics this weekend could be watched online but I didn't hear them mention where--and I couldn't find it on their site...does anyone hear know where online you can watch the meets this weekend?

Top 20 U.S gymnasts of all time- men and women

The reason I am starting this thread when there was a similar one a couple years ago is.

1. Simone Biles has obviously established herself up there now, which is a big difference.

2. We are less than a year from an Olympics where Biles, Raisman, Douglas, could all cement a new position for themselves.

3. This is a big one, I have recently started going back and examining NCAA closer and I am wondering if anyone agrees Kupets deserves inclusion not for her elite career alone, but for her elite career AND being the greatest NCAA gymnast EVER. I am almost tempted to put her above someone like Patterson due to her NCAA career. Which brings another topic, should NCAA factor into gymnastics greatness at all. I would argue it can, but I suspect many wont agree with me on that but it is an interesting thing to discuss.

4. Since the previous thread had no discussion on the men.

Weight questions

First of all hi there everbody, I have been very busy lately but missed this board heavily :)

So.

I know it is a very sensual topic and I would like to make sure that I don't want to offend anybody (gymnasts, coaches) at all!

I ordered Nastia's book and I find it quite inspirational. I was always rooting for her during her career but was glad that Shawn got a gold medal at the Olympic games as well - I think both deserved their results. So I respect Nastia and her self-discipline very much BUT... looking her recent pics on social media they literally freak out me. She looks very, very skinny. To tell the truth she looks anorexic for me. I know her mom had eating disorders too, and I remmeber her dad told in an interview that she has been a bad eater (and reading the book it must be true that food was the last thing for them)
But reading Shawn's coming out how much she suffered from her body image and she didn't dare to eat one single noodle in a soup I am scared a bit. Okay, that Nastia looks stunning on her book and she is happy preparin for her wedding but what kind of pic she is spreading about success?.... She is going in to several gyms with her Shine Tour and little girls see this: she is skinny, she is successful, she is utterly happy (?...). An on the other side there is Shawn who try to spread a healthier, balanced lifestyle with her program and tells how bad and unsuccessful she felt looking "skinny gymnasts" (i.e. Nastia) and she knew they were the favourite of the coaches.

And than the competitions... I see the lovely Chinese gymnasts who were very flexible and fragile in the past but had power, grace and charisma. Now? They are as skinny as a skeleton! Their heads is almost bigger than her bodies! They are very skinny! And although they do great gymnastics but somehow lack the power! I preferes their old coaching method. Maybe they have a new head trainer with new system but I wish I could back the old one.
But than there is the Dutch team also which became one of my favourite at the Worlds and those girls thanks God have normal weight and look healthy. I heard in an interview that the Weavers twins have a special nutritionist-body trainer and I think that is a very good idea!

I don't know what is your opinion but I found those poor, extremly tiny girls dangerous, I mean that coaching phenomena in long term which prefers their gymnasts being skinny! As we can understand from Shawn's story little gymnasts can easily think that they are good only as skinny, they don't eat and they suffer instead of enjoying this beautiful sport. And will have several problems after finishing with sport (as I am afraid Nastia has currently)
I think the healthy weight (like the Weavers or Simone have) is a way better example! Sloan, Memmel, Zmeskal etc. always had normal weight and they were very successful!
I don't know WOGA so much only as a spectator but there can be something with eating as in my opinion (which can be wrong of course) Madison Kocian is under her weigh too as well.

Somehow I really can't believe in that fairy tale that somebody is sooo happy if she or he has eating disorder! :(

I am more than happy if you share your opinions!

correct pronunciation of Iordache's name

I wish gymnastics commentators would come to a consensus of how to pronounce Larisa Iordache's last name. I know this topic of correct pronunciation of "foreign" (to Americans) names has been discussed before, but on the recent televising of the World Championships I heard "Your-dock-ee," "Ee-your-dach (as in "cat")-ee, and even "I-your-dock-ee" and "I-your-dack-ee." Heaven knows Nastia (and she has had enough grief with the pronunciation of her last name), Al, and the rest are paid enough for their commentating, so I should think the least they could do would be to decide how these names are pronounced. Any thoughts?

Help Finding Gymnastics Book Title/Author

Hey, guys, I'm trying to locate a gymnastics book I used to read all the time at the library. It's woefully out of date, but there were some great photographs in it of past gymnasts. I know it was published before we became aware of Mary Lou Retton and I want to say it might have been done around 1978 or 1979, but I'm not positive. I know it was coffee-table book size in height and width - probably thirteen inches high and eight-ten wide if I remember correctly. It had an orange spine and back cover and there was a gymnast on beam on the front of the edition I read, possibly Vera Cerna? (This could have been library binding and a dust jacket, but mine had the picture directly printed on the book cover). It wasn't very long, I'm guessing a half cm thick if that. And I know in the back there was a section about competition and they had what I think was the competition diagram from the 1979 Worlds, showing all the judges' positions, how the equipment was laid out, where other officials sat, etc.

If anyone remembers this book and can give me the title and author I would really appreciate it.

Thanks in advance.

The Value of Specialists

Has this been good for our sport? Some careers were longer because of its addition, so in that sense it is good. Has there ever been an EF when everyone was a specialist or the medalists were?
