Music On Tom Forster Interview
I was watching the interview with Tom Forster at Nationals where he talks about the wonky selection procedures and ar about 5:40 you can hear a really stunning piece of music in the background. Does anyone recognize it?
I'd try to link it but Youtube's being stupid for me again tonight.

Missing Part of 2004 Classic?
Does anyone know what happened to Part 9 of the 2004 US Senior Classic? I was trying to watch the whole thing and got an unexpected interruption. Here's Part 8 if that helps:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7-aVwuwDwFI
I'd really like to be able to watch the rest of it!

1997 Moceanu Fluff & Strug Interview??
I'm hoping someone can help me out here because I feel like I'm losing my mind. I was POSITIVE I remembered seeing a fluff about Dominique Moceanu at the 1997 Worlds. There were clips of her training and one of her hugging her little sister and I'm almost positive it was this meet because I feel like I can hear Robin Roberts' voice saying she was coached by "Liviu Mazilu and his wife Rodica Apateanu." But I just checked all the Worlds coverage I could find online and it isn't anywhere. There's a Mag 7 fluff, but Domi is not shown. Does anyone know or have this fluff I'm thinking of or am I misremembering?
Also, I found a fluff about the Mag 7 from the 1997 American Cup and thought I remembered seeing Strug interviewed afterwards, but it just ends at the end of the fluff. I thought I recalled Strug saying something about "Only time will tell," but I could be thinking of something else and I was sure I saw her wearing that navy outfit but maybe I only just saw it in IG.
If someone could please find these and post them so I can quit losing my mind I would REALLY appreciate it!
Naturally I can't find my own recordings, so I can't check the videos myself, grr!

Made In American Fluff?
Stumbled across this excerpt from the 1997 documentary: Magnificent Seven Made In America. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KT9a05Oq8Ro
It's only Dominique Moceanu's part, but it's all I've ever been able to find. Does anyone have the rest of the documentary? I remember seeing the photos on the old Shanfan website and I'd love to watch it, since the Mag 7 really got me into the sport.

MyKayla 2020?
The more I see of Jade Carey, the more I think if I were MyKayla Skinner I'd be seriously considering a run at Tokyo.
At this stage, I'd say a full competition ready MyKayla is better than Jade. Vault I think Jade is a better vaulter but the recent downgrades are odd. I think MyKayla would at least give the selection committee something to think about. Although I do think her exclusion from the 2016 team was the correct decision, you can't deny that she hit cold at trials and she has yet to miss a college routine in 2 years of competition (and her attitude seems to have improved). She has also stayed in incredible shape and sticks double doubles and DTYs week in week out
Jade has overall better form on skills, and of course chas more time to improve. But I would not count MyKayla out on snatching one of the individual spots.
She's a junior now, so graduating in May 2020,which is perfect if she started elite conditioning and training after this NCAA season.

For all tv commentators out there
I am just a gymnastics fan who is not a native English speaker (which is obvious).
I love gymnastics and I love American gymnastics as well, and I am grateful that the US National Championships could be followed even from outside of USA.
But.
Even with my not professional English knowledge I found it extremly annoying how the commentators were praising Simone Biles and how the coverage was focused on her. I was surprised the amount of the attention and praise she got- and other competitors didn't.
The commentators were weird at making negative comments for certain girls all the time (for example what was that "She has got a Barbie doll-haha pointing out Maggie Haney? She is a great coach producing happy and good gymnasts. Or it was for the blonde Riley? Anyway, I found it very much inappropriate.)
But at Simone even her failures were praised - I don't think she needs it. She is great, balanced and all these hype can turn against her.
I think ALL of the girls have worked hard who got there and were on a certain (high!) level. EVERYBODY has something where she is better at than Simone. Toepoints, flexibility, artistry, etc. For example I would have never given her the UB titles bc of (lack) of form. She has improved a LOT, but still not the best bar worker out there (of course it is my personal opinion).
It was like creating a new ikon, a new "brand" diverting the attention from all these scandals USAG is getting through.
She is great, but will never be the "best gymnast ever". She is great, she may be the most acrobatic artistic gymnast ever, and this current code is in her favor, but her lack of form, fluidity and artistry put some limits for her toward this title. In the past there were many great gymnast who were able to pull out great acrobatics (in that time) AND great artistry. We could name more Soviet and Romanian gymnasts (and for me from USA Shannon Miller was better overall than Simone - but it is just me).
Gymnastics lovers love the other girls too, and (would have) love(d) to watch great gymnastics from them. Despite the scoring system, gymnastics is more or less a subjective sport.
It was sad to see that the girls are convinced that they can be only second as maximum, and never be a champion, while Simone is out there. Why?! They are great, they can improve, Simone can have a bad day, code can change (ok, not for a while, but in the future) etc.
The competion should be encouraged among them, not a Godness creating! It isn't good for anyone (not even for Simone), annoying for fans (remember: gymnastics is quite subjective for a certain part) and we would like to see all those girls who are working hard for golds.
(And not good to favour acrobatics against artistry these much, but I love the Dutch girls answers for this trend! Their style and joy always make every competition a real experience :) And good to see that taller and less muscular athletes can have a chance too. )
I felt so disrespectful what these coverages did. I am sure lots of people would have been curious of Eaker, McCallum and the others too.
So please: it is okay if have your favourite one, but don't throw it into our face in every 5 seconds. And give the others chance to be visible too.
Thank you.

Floor Exercise Mat
Have they ever considered widening the floor exercise by a few feet?
I'm not usually a fan of changing equipment too much in any sport because I think part of the fun and creativity in sports comes from different people finding ways to adapt their different abilities to a fixed point. Plus, I want to see what humans are capable of, not what science and equipment and technology is capable of.
That said, gymnastics has evolved its equipment in the past. They rightly changed the vault for safety reasons and they've changed the materials that constructed the bars, beam and floor. Most importantly, when female gymnasts started doing "bigger" skills on uneven bars, they drastically widened the bars. Is it possible it's time to also widen the floor mat as gymnasts are doing much bigger passes?
Argument for:
1. I don't want to change the rules to excuse gymnasts' mistakes, but an errant step on a landing is already a deductible error. I'd rather see OOB penalties be reserved for when a gymnast either SIGNIFICANTLY doesn't control the landing OR because she wasn't properly trained and needs a half-mile run before she tumbles.
I'd like enough room on the floor ex so that there are 3 available stages of landing: 1. Sticking your pass perfectly 2. Taking a .1-.3 step or hop 3. Going out of bounds. It seems these days for many girls, if you don't absolutely stick your pass, you end up out of bounds. Simone is 4'9" and she has trouble staying in. It's got to be way harder for any girl taller than her.
Argument against:
1. The men are on average taller than the women and have been doing the women's harder passes successfully since the 90s and manage to stay in bounds. If the men can stay in bounds, then the women should learn how to as well.
(although, I don't know for sure if this is true. I also don't know if the fact that the men don't leap and dance, plus get to stop, breathe and collect themselves slightly before their passes helps them control the pass)
In conclusion:
I don't know if I'm for or against changing it. Just curious what other people's thoughts are. I'd love to see data on the # of OOB penalties from previous decades compared to now, for both men and women. If the data shows there are significantly more OOB penalties now, that might signify the penalties are less because athletes are tumbling worse, than simply because the skills have gotten bigger and if so, that might be a reason to give them all a little more room.

Terry Gannon is much improved from Al Trautwig
While I keep hoping that they replace Tim with Bart Connor, I've accepted it's not gong to happen.
I was pleasantly surprised with how much more tolerable the commentary was with Terry than it was with Al. So glad to see the upgrade!

Question About Maloney On UB
I saw a COP montage on Youtube and for some reason they called Kristen's second bars skill - the toe on full one - a different name that I've never even heard of - something that started with H. Did they screw up or was the skill renamed and if it was, why?

Irina Alexeeva and Future Russian Teams
So weve now officially seen her compete for Russia. She got the highest UB score in TF and although she fell in quals, pulled it together in TF on beam.
Ive seen a few comments that she essentially threatens Komovas spot for Worlds. What do folks think about her potential for future Worlds and possible Olympic teams?
What does she offer? Does she have any tricks up her sleeve that she can unveil to solidify a spot on future Russian teams? How does she fit into a team with Musty?

Twisting Question
I was rereading Shannon's mom's book and she was talking about the difficulties Shannon had learning front tumbling. At one point she said Steve had forgotten she was a left twister and since she was going forward, she hadn't understood it would be easier to twist in the other direction.
So if you're tumbling forward, you twist differently then if you are trying to tumble backward in a twisting salto?
I remember fooling around in the pool and on a trampoline but I can't remember how I twister backwards, just forward. (I'm a righty!)

Is there a website where I can find the rosters for all the teams from Jesolo over the years, especially the rosters for Romania and USA?
Also, when did this competition start? I don't remember hearing about it before 2008 but I'm also not always as up on meets not covered extensively in IG.
