Age of the AA competitors in Rio

Hey.. long time lurker of the forum, I hardly ever post despite being a pretty avid follower of the sport. As Worlds is just around the corner (I'm in the UK and can't go due to work :( ) and Rio is ever looming I thought I would start posting again.

One thing that struck me as really unique this quad is the age of the front-runners as we move into Rio. We will have:

Biles, 19 and 5 months during the Games
Douglas, 20 and 8 months
Raisman, 22 and 3 months
Iordache, 20 and 2 months
Mustafina, 21 and 11 months

And then there are the Wildcards like Yao Jinnan and Komova who will also be 21 and a half.

Of course in the grand scheme of things they're all still kids, really. And despite Biles being the clear favourite I find it interesting that the nearest possible threats to her are... *shock* OLDER than 16. The 16 years olds don't seem to stand a chance this year.... though I guess Hernandez could figure if she has Douglas-like rocket ascent in 2016.

Team Qualification Predictions

Since some teams are starting to be announced...who makes team finals and qualifies a guaranteed full team to Rio?

Last year, Australia was 8th in qualifications with 218.134. The other teams to qualify were USA, China, Russia, GBR, Italy, Japan, and Romania, with Germany and the Netherlands in 9th and 10th.

I think the big four will secure their spots, with Romania most vulnerable to a risky bars meltdown like last year. They are a little deeper on bars this year with Bulimar, Jurca, and Iridon all available, as well as improvements from Ocolisan, and Ponor should make up for the regression from Munteanu and Stanila.

The German team looks much deeper this year, with Seitz in the all around and Scheder and Tratz looking strong. I think they can qualify. GBR seems to have regressed a bit. Fasana and Ferlito both look strong for Italy, and Japan had a great competition at the Asian Games, so I think both those teams are likely.

I haven't seen much of Australia this year, so can't speak to them. I am keeping my fingers crossed for the Netherlands an Brazil!

2000 Olympic Medals

Did the bronze medals the girls received come from the Chinese gymnasts, or were new ones made? How could they ensure the medals they got back were the real ones? What if they were beat up? So many questions lol

Front aerial with a full twist?

I saw this question another forum and was curious about this myself. Has anyone done an aerial with a full twist on floor? It would look cool and be more interesting than the normal aerial lots of gymnasts are doing to fulfill the requirement.

All-American Appreciation Thread - The road to Worlds

There are almost 4,300 posts in the last thread! Time for a new one. This was the last post in the thread:

She will have journalists everywhere writing on her win and all looking for different takes. You guys forget that after the all around so many newspapers were digging things up about gabby ( her mom's financial history, dad's arrest), I definitely won't think less of Simone if she starts sharing more about her story and hardships because it not about milking it but about telling her own story accurately and on her own terms."

That's a good point, telling it first before a rumor mill starts. Such a shame that's the world we live in. Gabby tried to present her father as this military guy she was proud of and then the whole story changed. I hope the media doesn't try to find Simone's mom, though I'm sure they will. I remember the Russian media even found the birth parents of some American paralympians.

Tatiana Nabieva

Nabieva just posted on Facebook an article about millions of Jews being killed in Ukraine during WW2. Her title to the post was, "Big deal! Jews are not people. People are you f**ks" Needless to say, I am not a fan and am horrified.
